Adopt a Cat Month 2012, a Contest for Cat Writers and More

Hey everybody. June is one of my favorite months. That’s because the focus is on adoptable cats this month. It’s Adopt a Cat month and CATalyst Council, the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Humane Association have partnered to promote the cause.

The video above is produced by the American Veterinary Medical Association and features CATalsyt Council’s own Dr. Jane Brunt and…wait for it guys…me, CAT Stanley. That’s right. I’m a star! Watch the video and you’ll see.

Besides the awesome video, you can also read more about Adopt a Cat Month in this post from Steve Dale. Steve offers some ideas about how to deal with the very real problem of cat overpopulation.

One of the reasons I’m so passionate about Adopt a Cat Month is because I was once an adoptable cat myself. I was rescued and found my forever home after suffering some pretty severe injuries. I’ll share my story with you in an upcoming blog post in detail. I promise. I know you’re sitting on the edge of your seats waiting to hear more.

In the meantime, we sure would love to hear from you about your own rescued cats. In fact, we’d love to share some of your stories here. Email your story along with a photo of your rescued cat(s). We’ll feature as many as we can over the next month.

Don’t forget to visit (and “Like”) our Facebook page. Feel free to post your rescued cat photos there too. We also have a brand new Pinterest account which we’d like to invite you to check out. It’s pretty sparce now but we’ll be growing it out, hopefully with help from all of you! Over the next month, we’ll be featuring adoptable cats on our Facebook and Pinterest site, one cat every day from a different shelter and different area of the United States. You won’t want to miss them.

Even if our featured adoptable cats aren’t near you or aren’t what you’re looking for, there are many adoptable cats that need a home. Check out your local shelter or rescue and take home a cat (or two!)

And finally, I know some of you humans out there write or blog about cats, an important function to be sure. Do you know about the Cat Writers’ Association annual communication awards? Entries for the contest are being accepted now through July 1. Check out their categories and enter a favorite article, blog post, DVD or other media.

“This contest showcases the very best in the feline field of professional writers, broadcasters, photographers and graphic artists,” says Nancy Marano, contest chair. “You don’t have to belong to CWA to submit an entry. However, we encourage you to be part of this professional group that strives to improve the lives of cats and serves as a great network of professional journalists.”
